I have been reading Determining Doctrine: A Reference Guide for Evaluating
Doctrinal Truth compiled and arranged by Dennis B. Horne. The 400 page book is primarily a collection of written statements,
mostly by LDS General Authorities, on points relevant to such questions as:
What is official Mormon doctrine?
Why is there so little?
How does a concept attain that status?
How are the writings of Church authorities to be viewed?
How authoritative are the beliefs and writings of past Authorities?
What is the role of the Church President?
How does the Church Correlation Department?
What is the ultimate doctrinal authority?
Insight into these questions and many others can be found in the hundreds of quotations. Many sources cited are obscure,
from unpublished letters and addresses and other sources.
There are many interesting situations in the book on matters which,
as yet, are unsettled. We will invite participation by phone or email.
The program will air live on the internet from 5:00 - 7:00 Sunday
25 June at:
