173. ETERNAL
PROGRESSION > progress from one kingdom to another?
Source: Franklin D. Richards, ‘Words
of the Prophets" (LDS Archives), p. [24]. This is a small 30 page handwritten booklet produced by Richards from 1841-1844.
In it he recorded notes from a number of sermons of Joseph Smith and others. The Joseph Smith material is published in Andrew
F. Ehat and Lyndon W. Cook, The Words of Joseph Smith (Provo: Religious Studies Center, 1980). This quotation is from
a sermon of Hyrum Smith.
Hiram said Aug lst-43
Those of the Terrestrial Glory either advance to the Celestial or recede to the
Telestial else the moon could not be a type "It waxes & wanes"
Acceptance of this concept has been very limited. It was later taught by Apostle
Franklin D. Richards in, Millennial Star 16:535, and this quotation from Journal of Discourses 25:236:
...those in the terrestrial kingdom...They will go forward, like unto the new
moon, increasing in knowledge and brightness and glory, until they come to a fullness of celestial glory... while those who
will not go forward to a fullness will go back to that lesser glory which is likened unto the stars of heaven...
